Romantic Fall Wedding at The Barn at Twin Lakes

Maggie and Corey are one of those couples who are just a joy to be around. They first met in English class, so for their engagement session we went to Carmichael's bookstore and then to Big Rock to hike with their doggos - you can check it out here. We had a great time talking and exploring and I knew that their wedding was going to be one for the books (or the blog, as it stands.) Each place setting had Emily Bronte’s classic line ‘whatever our souls are made of, his and mine are the same’ on a bookmark for guests to take home. The barn was filled with twinkle lights, beams of sunlight coming through the slats of the wood, and gorgeous moody florals - it couldn't have been more romantic and was absolutely a wedding photographer's dream. 

October 20th was one of the windiest days of the year in Kentucky, (I came home to a house with no power, but that's a story for a different time) and it caused havoc with decor and hairstyles, but it did amazing things with Maggie's dress. I absolutely loved the movement it created in the images, so overall I'm happy to take the bad with the good.

My favorite moment was when we ran (literally) outside for some sunset images and Corey initiated the Titanic-style spin without me asking. I don't think it gets better than that. Iceland Adventure Engagement Session

How do you narrow down two days of photos from a road trip across the southern coast of Iceland with a gorgeous, adventurous couple? By taking lots & lots of time and being forever conflicted about your choices... at least that's how you do it if you're me. It took me six weeks to finish this blog post, but I'm so excited to finally share the magic with you all!

Jennifer explained things best: "For a good while after we started dating, Tyler was living in Germany and I was in Kentucky. This meant meeting up 'in the middle' sometimes, and one of those times was Iceland. So when we had the chance to return and take our engagement photos there we jumped at the opportunity. These past three years have been an incredible adventure and I'm excited for many more."

Iceland was one of the most magical places I have ever been. I can't wait to get back and hopefully photograph an elopement or intimate wedding in that otherworldly landscape. Now that I've spent some time exploring on my own, I've got a few lesser known places lined up for the most magical background for your adventure... just let me know if you're interested and we can make some magic happen together!

Jewel-Toned Summer Wedding with Chinese Tea Ceremony at Warrenwood Manor

It's been a couple years since I had the chance to photograph a wedding at Warrenwood Manor, so I was thrilled when Janice (she/her) & Quentin (he/him) told me that's where they were getting married! It's not often a venue has a gorgeous space to get ready, multiple location options for the ceremony, as well as an ideal reception space. As a photographer, I can't tell you how much stress is alleviated from a wedding day when you don't have to drive from location to location. It makes it so everyone can have some downtime and really be present, plus it gives us the ability to take couple's photos casually throughout the day instead of in one bigger block of time. Before this turns into an advertisement for Warrenwood, let's talk about this amazing couple.

Janice & Quentin are full of joy & laughter. They are remarkably kind to each other and everyone around them, so it didn't surprise me when they made every member of their vendor team feel like family. It was humbling to get to photograph their wedding and I am so happy to now call them friends! 

I could go on and on, but I really should just let the images speak for themselves. I’ve shared a few more details throughout the post that I couldn’t resist including.

During the Chinese tea ceremony, Quentin & Janice served tea to their parents and grandparents as a way to show respect and say thank you for helping them become the people they are now. Each of those family members said a little something after they had been served tea. I LOVE this tradition— it brought a new layer of intention, thoughtfulness, and intimacy to the day that really stuck with me and set the tone for the remainder of the day. 

In their words, "having dinner family style is not only a great tie into Chinese culture, but also helps us make the evening more intimate and bring together people from all different parts of our lives." I couldn't agree more— getting to sit and chat with guests during dinner was wonderful and I enjoyed watching so many important people from their lives all talking and getting to know one another.
