I first met Cassie in college through mutual friends. We went out dancing a few times, and of course, my camera was always in tow. She was so fun to photograph, always laughing and smiling. When I saw she was engaged I crossed all my fingers and toes that she would ask me to photograph her wedding, which brings us here!
Cassie and Drew wanted to keep their wedding day simple and to skip any traditions that didn't feel significant to them, which I 100% recommend for everyone getting married. They chose Farmington because it was already gorgeous and didn't need a lot of extra decorations to make it feel special, plus they could have all the day's events in one location to cut down on driving and to make everything more relaxed. Cassie skipped a bouquet because she didn't want to have to carry it around all day— a decision that led to two amazing corsages. We both agreed that her upper arm corsage felt especially badass. Her engagement ring was designed by Heidi Gibson around a family stone and is possibly the best ring I've ever seen.
As Cassie walked down the aisle, the wedding party joined in singing the "na na na na" part of "Hey Jude" and all of Drew's side put on sunglasses. Cassie says it was her favorite part of the day— it felt so special and fun. Drew's aunt Kathy performed their ceremony which Drew and Cassie worked together to create based on other ceremony scripts they found online.
After the ceremony, I knew they wanted to prioritize spending time with friends and family over posed photos, so we spent about thirty minutes total on all of the family formals, wedding party photos, and couples photos. It might have been the quickest I've ever managed to do them (shout out to their family for being so organized!)
Their reception had the best energy— DIY colorful pom-poms hung with string lights from the ceiling, wildflowers filled eclectic vintage vases, and the garden was close enough for couples to sneak off for a romantic stroll. I loved watching all of their friends dance with their family members and seeing everyone get to know each other more as the evening went on. My three favorite reception moments were when the conga line formed, when everyone (myself included) sang along to "Kiss From a Rose", and at the end of the night when family and friends formed a circle around Cassie & Drew for a final dance.
